You Don't Know How to Talk About Yourself, and It's Killing Your Career
You have two problems:
You don’t know how to talk about yourself.
You’re constantly underselling your capabilities.
These problems are killing your career trajectory. You’re also making a lot less than you should be, and you’re doing work that is beneath you.
This has to stop.
Here’s how it snowballs.
You don’t know how to talk about yourself. This leads to people, even internally, not understanding what you do. So you miss out on promotions, and you can’t change jobs with better titles because, from the outside, they think you are still junior. It’s not their fault, you made them think that. This is your problem.
You’re underselling your capabilities. You keep projecting the wrong image to the outside world. It has everything to do with your lack of confidence. You don’t have confidence because you don’t think you have “success stories” or “experience” when, in reality, that’s not true. You’re lying to yourself. It’s crazy.
A few things I want to address:
You can talk about how good you are at what you do without bragging.
It’s not bragging, it’s literally documenting your experience. That’s it. Make it simple for others to understand.
You have great professional experience, but you’re thinking too literally about it (and you undervalue it!).
You’re too much in your own head. You’re complicating things. So when someone asks you to provide proof that you have experience, you think so technically or so specifically that you miss out on the wonderful experience across multiple jobs that you actually have. You don’t know how good you really are.
A simple change of your bio and attitude can double your salary overnight.
I talked to some people who were embarrassed to tell me what they make or what they charged for a project. And holy shit, some of these people charged $5/hour when they should have been charging $50/hour.
And some are making $200k/year when they should be making $400k/year.
We’re going to make sure that never happens again.
HERE’S HOW I’M GOING TO HELP YOU
I thought about doing a course, but I noticed when I gave people content, even step by step directions, they still couldn’t do it no matter how hard they tried.
But on a single 30-minute call, I was able to change their entire perspective on the situation, provide them with extra confidence they desperately needed, and give them specific direction and action items.
They took immediate action, and that action turned into new clients, new jobs, and most importantly, more money.
So instead of giving you content and tell you to figure it out on your own, I’m going to do a 13-week cohort specifically for copywriters and content writers.
In each one of these cohorts will include as much 1-on-1 time with me as needed to get you going along with accountability meetings with your cohort colleagues. I’ll also help you with any copywriting related to how you position yourself.
That’s my promise to you.
The goal is to simply reposition yourself with 1-on-1 time with me, add the confidence you so desperately need, and help you make a lot more money.
There may be some yelling at you. Probably a lot of yelling. I’m already angry as I’m writing this.
About Me (A.K.A. ME TALKING ABOUT MYSELF)
Hi, I’m Robbie Abed. I’m the author of Fire Me I Beg You, self-taught B2B marketer, writer for Inc. Magazine, and a ghostwriter for senior executives and founders of technology companies.
Ghostwriting and copywriting are how I make all my money.
I started full-time as a freelancer in 2017. I went from making $150k/year to $360k/year in three years. Now I work when I want and how I want. I don’t need approval for vacations, and I don’t have daily check-ins. I receive about five to ten emails per week. Yes, I said week.
I’m not a coach. I don’t make my money selling courses.
I’m still in the trenches every day with my clients.
JOIN THE COPYWRITING BOOTCAMP AND GET IMMEDIATE GUIDANCE & ACCOUNTABILITY
More companies are hiring copywriters and content writers than ever before, and more employees are looking at hiring them as contractors or freelancers, which is great news for you.
But it’s not just about freedom, it’s also about the money.
If you make $50k a year, you can be making $65k to $90k/year
If you make $100k a year, you can make $150k to $175k/year
If you make $200k a year, you can make $300k to $350k/year
And yes, this is possible as a content and copywriter.
FAQ
When does it start?
It starts as soon as you purchase. You will receive a few exercises to complete, and a link to set up time on my calendar for our 1 on 1’s.
How long does it last?
It’s a 6-week program.
Week 1 - you will do the exercise(s) and set a 1-1 on time to speak with me.
Week 2-5 you will receive weekly exercises and action items throughout these weeks.
Week 6 - We will have another 1-1 to discuss your accomplishments and any final challenges you’re working through.
How does accountability work?
You are accountable to me #1. If you pay, that means you give me permission to keep you in check. And #2, you’ll be added to an accountability group with other writers in the bootcamp as well.
What if I can’t start right away? Should I buy now?
I’m a single person. A human being. I understand that life doesn’t always work in perfect 6-week increments. My promise to you is that if you sign up, I will help you get to where you need to be. If you put in the work, I will help you. And generally speaking, I’ve seen most transformations happen with the first 2 weeks.
