Are You Trying To Invent a Job or Find a Job?

Harvard undergraduates believe that inventing a job is better than finding a job. – Social Network
Out of all the great lines in Social Network, this line was my favorite. It was the scene in which the Winklevoss Brothers (Winklevii) were speaking with the President of Harvard and this was the quote from the president.
Here is the difference between entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs:
- Entrepreneur: Invent a job for myself and others via the creation of a company
- Non-Entrepreneur: Find a great job by joining an existing company

Neither of them are right or “better”, but I think this is the simplest explanation of how entrepreneurs are different from non-entrepreneurs.
What entrepreneurs won’t tell you is that in their back of their minds is that Plan B is to join another company if their company doesn’t work out.
So the question is, Are you trying to invent a job or are you trying to find a job? There is a big difference.
